I am very opinionated about this subject. I understand that money is in the forefront of this change. I miss the pre '48 shows, if anything they could have moved the cut off date to '72 like the Shades of the Past Rod Run(which I dont necessarily agree with either) and not have a revolving cut off every year..one day i can imagine a '89 or '90 escort beside me at the show...ridiculous.

Pre-1948

The pre-1948 rule turned me off to NSRA back in the 70's when I first started driving. My first car was a 1951 Chevy Fleetline, so it would not make the cut. Then, 1973, the only pre-48 steel you could find was original and the only fiberglass was for a VW dune buggy or a T bucket. Now, 40 years later, you can almost assemble an entire 49-54 Chevy with new after-market steel AND get it into the NSRA meet.

In my opinion, these arbitrary rules defining a "hot rod" or a "street rod" or a "rat rod" end up fracturing the participants in an unnecessary way.

No fenders makes a hot rod?

What do you think of this?

My Dad built this car out of 16 gauge sheet metal and 1-3/4 inch steel tubing. Titled it as a 1983 "assembled vehicle". I guess IT would not get in to the NSRA meet this year.

But hey, it's got no fenders!

It will next year though Supercharged. Even though I now have a 36 Hot Rod, I have always loved the customs and 50's cars. Owned a few of them too. I agree with Jeremy. There should have been a cut off date that allowed the fifties and sixties modified cars to be admitted. I think the NSRA has hurt themselves in the long run. I do believe that moving the cut off date does allow the younger guys with less money to spend to enter our sport and Lord knows we need that. It also allows for more diversified interests to be represented. I went to the Nationals in Louisville and the Nats south in Knoxville and saw very few cars that I felt shouldn't be there. I just can't see that Escort parked next to Jeremy's '37 Coupe. Makes no sense.
