This has been popular this week, my 3rd posting of this kind.
Anyways, the F-body Firebird T/A and Camaro Z28 came with 7.5 rear just as your S-10 did. all you have to do is head to the junkyard and search one down. I have the same rear in my cutlass, I swapped the guts out. your S-10 came with a leaf spring rear likely, the F-body`s use coil springs, so swapping the whole rear is out, unless your handy with a welder and cutting torch, so swapping out the guts would be the easier route however, it must be done correctly. if you do this, make sure you add GM limited slip differential fluid, this will eliminate the chatter.
The code on the F-body rears will be on the passengers side front axle tube. the 88 and up F-body`s used a Aussie 9 bolt rear that won`t interchange. these codes are for limited slip (posi) diff`s only, the codes are as follows:
