No on the shims. If it doesn't fit it will have to be milled also...both the sides and the ends.

You can get 1/8" thick intake gaskets from Fel-Pro, that may be your best bet.

Hmmm, Yeah... Felpro Performance Gasket Catalog (PDF version of applicable pages also attached)

Does list a few .120 thick gaskets, (i.e. #1281-5) but it looks like that part # is designed for adapting a rectangular-port 1.945" x 2.585" aluminum intake manifold to oval port cast heads?

Considerations for choosing the correct gasket:
1.) The OP's heads (049's?) are cast iron, and have 1.82" x 2.05" oval ports.
2.) He also appears to have an (oval-port?) Aluminum intake without an exhaust cross-over.

I wouldn't recommend using the OE replacement (cast-to-cast) gasket (MS902402 open, MS902323 blocked) with an aluminum intake.

I used Felpro Performance #1210 on my 454, which are .060 thick.
HTH.

Sorry, my bad didn't realize there aren't many options for Oval port. I'm a Rectangular port guy myself, never seen an Oval port engine that really impressed me on its power output naturally aspirated.

No sweat.
Perhaps those 1281-5's may even work?
As long as the gasket is fully enclosed at the intake manifold side?

Difference in what?? Are you asking Horsepower?? About 5 hp, due to the roller bearing trunnion instead of ball pivot. No difference in ratio, stock is 1.7 on the BBC, you have to go to 1.75 or 1.8 to get a bigger than stock ratio.

Yes, that is the major advantage, also oil doesn't get heated/burned black so much(lot of hard work for that oil in a sliding pivot like the stock rocker has) and the roller rocker is more accurate on ratio than the generic factory stamped rocker.
