Thumbs up NYS Bumpers or No Bumpers

I am trying to find out whether or not NY has a any laws stating that vehicles must have bumpers. I have seen numerous 30's without them, but 40's I have not then by the 50's they were integrated into the car. Thoughts? I would like to toss the boat anchors since they add 17" to my cars length. <img src="graemlins/crash.gif" border="0" alt="[crash]" />

Well I once flat towed a friend of mines car w/ one of my winter rats. The stupid sob hooked the chain to the bumper braket. As the bumper lay in the road we pick it up put it in the trunk.Well befor we got were we were goin we got pulled over for no bumper. But we got let go after the cop heard the story and seen the bumper in the trunk. So at least on 70s cars they are required.
Go to I believe www.nysdmv.com you should find the whole list of required crap for there little yellow $$$sticker.I found it once befor.

Unless I am reading this wrong it does not list that as a requirement. My cousin said that all cars must have bumpers and he is a State Trooper, but could not come up with anything stating that it was required either. If anyone else has input I would like to know. At one point I heard that if it was originally there then you must have it. Thanks

I've run into the same thing while looking for emmissions crap.Thats how I found the link I gave you.Thay say an car 26 or older is exempt from emmissions but any car 75 and newer requires a cat and any 73 and newer needs a egr and there are other things too.Inspection stations say 78 and newer.DMV in albany says they don't really know.In short I don't think there really set on any thing. Its just a matter of finding a shop that thinks they ain't required I guess.Did ya check the link??

The bumper is considered a safety device and is therefore covered under any section that says "must retain all original safety devices". I do believe that you can "design" your own safety device mind you?
