Lightbulb OH MAN!!!!! HOSTON I HAVE A PROBLEM!!! I JUST LOST DRIVE!!!!

I decided to drive my Cuda to work today and I had driven about 11 miles and I was pulling up to a stop light and I heard a horrible grinding noise comming from the back of the car. I then tried to give it gas and the noise got worse. (I have a 904 trans)I thought at first that the rear gear was shot when I shofted the car into low gear and the car started moving again and there was no noise. when I got to crusing speed I shifted the car manualy into drive the motor was just free spinning, so I held the gear in second and made it to work. In the time that I parked the car at work And walked inside and came right back I checked under the car and there was about a quart of fluid on the ground. I filled it back up after work about 9 hours later and I went to drive it home. I figured that if it has to be rebuilt anyway I would just try to venture back home. on my way home it was smoking like a freight train but the trans shifted ok no problems. I Recently had a shift kit put into it and replaced the torque converter. this is the only mods I have done to it. Would the shift kit that was installed in it cause this problem. I know that the leak wouldnt be a result of this but I just have a bad feeling about the shift kit! Any ideas?

New shift kit + Used/worn trans = trouble!

Sounds like she needs to come apart.
