Oil Cooler

I have a radiator with an integrated transmission cooler. I am going to replace that with a separate tranny cooler since I use my truck to plow.

Is it possible to us the integrated tranny cooler as an oil cooler, and is there a kit to do this? Also, would my oil by to hot to pass through the cooling radiator with out effecting my coolant temp?

Thanks....steve

The problem with most integral trans coolers is there is not enuff volume or flow capacity for engine oil. You need the integral along with the add on, as the integral will get the trans to the proper temp quickly. As it also heats the cold fluid.

i'd get an oil cooler.you could just hook your trans cooler up to the trans and put the cooler infront of the radiator.its called a cooler for a reason.its supposed to cool.you hook it to your trans all you get is heat.

Steve,
In a nutshell, no. It's too restrictive. You wish to purchase a cooler specific to engine oil. Do not use the famous tube and fin coolers. Best performance comes from parallel plate coolers. Be sure the oil lines you use are #10 or bigger.

In addition, you can get engine oil too cold ... 200* or above is best.

yeah but what grade oil do you use...?? it does make a bit of difference. The thicker the tubing the better for oil coolers.
