oil dipstick

I have a 350 chevy, the oil dipstick is on the right.Can you tell about what year the engine is ? is there a tub before the engine block for the dipstick ? how long should the dipstick be ?

If it is on the right (drivers) side it should be anywhere between 1968 to 1985. would have to look at the casting date on the back of the block. Should be a short tube that presses into the block. You should be able to pick one up at any speed shop in the USA, as this is the most common motor in the world.

IIRC 1980- back SBC were driver side. At least some SBC engines switched to a passenger side dipstick in 1981.

But in any event, the dipstick location will not tell you anywhere near as much as the casting number, date code and suffix code will tell you. More here.
