Oil Fill Tube in Edelbrock Performer

I have an Edelbrock 2101 Performer for a 327 I'm going to build, and I'd like to put an oil fill tube in the front for that old school look. I've searched the site and found some posts, but they reference the boss at the front of the intake, and it is shown and referenced on the Edelbrock website as well. The problem is mine has a flat area where it would go, and could be drilled, but it is not a raised boss like in the pictures. Would there be any problem drilling the hole in the flat surface? Is a raised boss there to make it thicker? Would it weaken the intake and potentially crack without a boss? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts. The manifold is basically new, and I'd like to use it if possible. Thanks a lot.

You can still use the front oil fill tube, w/o there being a boss there. Just watch where the water crossover is at. Then, go for it!

EDIT- If you check out the bottom of the intake, you'll still see where it goes:

Some manifolds were made for adding a tube and some were not. It is a "you are on your own" with the risk situation.

There really is no way to strengthen it. I thought about adding one to an old performer I have and securing it into place with some grinding to ruff things up and JB weld..

Not a lot else you can do with cast aluminum.. A real good milling job for the tube hole would be a definate plus.

I ultimatley bagged the idea and just went with a valve cover oil fill.
