oil filter
I have a 351 W out if a 85 ford truck going in my latest T bucket and I need a shorter oil filter for clearance. The local parts counter guys can't seem to find one. Do any of you know of one that would work ?

According to Summit racing, the Motorcraft FL820-S fits a 351 Windsor, and it looks like a short filter.

What steering box are you using? I am using a Vega box and thus I used an oil filter relocation adapter, as shown below, on the 5.0 HO SBF in my '27 RPU. Didn't really want to, but I really didn't have an alternative, other than running a SBC.

I found a fram ph16 to fit on mine. It's about 3 1/2" tall. On a 302.

Fl820s is for 4.6/5.4, fl1a fits 302/351w although I think the used the same thread. Why don't you use a relocation for the oil filter

shorty Mazda?
No part number but I think there was a shorty filter on Mazda pickups that would work. also 460 vans used a swivel oil filter casting, I don't know if it is the same as the ford racing part. 70's econoline vans with V8 and PS used and upside down looking fuel pump that give more clearance in some swaps. I have a friend that put a 36 ford truck cab on a ranger chassis and after he looked at my V8 Ranger said he was going to use a Chevy small block. cheaper and easier. more clearance.

I am wanting to go the other way. I have a new 6.2l engine in my pickup that uses the 820 filter and wanted a longer one. They do NOT interchange. The FL1 filter uses inch based threads, while the 820 uses metric threads. Even if you could get it to go on I would not take a chance on it working.

Actually my bucket has a 350 chevy in it. This one is my wife's and she is a ford girl. A long filter will fit but I would have to jack the motor up to change it. Thanks for your help.

I use an FL300 or WIX equivalent 51068 on my current 5.0/302 and did on the 351 in a previous car.

More for my post above -:
Ford push rod small block filters use a 3/4-16 thread and are about 3-3/4" in diameter. Find one with those dimensions and a shorter overall length and it should work. Also, Ford has aa $80, 90* adapter that allows use of a standard FL-1A size filter Ford Racing Oil Filter Adapters M-6880-A50 - SummitRacing.com part number M-6880-A50. |
