oil leak

Hello,

I have a friend that has a 94 GMC Sonoma 4x4 with a 4.3 V-6. It is going through about 3 quarts of oil a day. I thought it might be the rear main seal. I was wondering if anyone new if it was a one piece or a two piece rear main seal. And if anyone has any other ideas of what it might be. any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Chris

If he is Leaking that much on the ground he would have a HUGE puddle ( 5-6' in Dia) on the driveway.
He will probably be burning it possibly with Aligned rings or very bad valve seals.
for a leak check the Oil sensor, or a warped valve cover, as well as the rear seal in the trans area.
Get a few cans of Carb cleaner and try to clean the oily looking areas on the engine, then try to see exactly where it comes from

It is a 1 piece rear main seal. The 4.3 is for the most part a leak free engine other than the intake manifold end seals. Is it leaking onto the ground or is the oil just gone. Sometimes if the engine is burning it, you will never see it smoke out the tail pipe, its getting burnt in the cat converter. Hope this helps.

it is leaking on to the ground. or I should say it seems to only be leaking when you are driving it. There is oil all over everything underneath
