Oil leak on S-10 2.8 V-6

I have a 1985 S-10 4X4 with 2.8 V-6 and automatic. My problem is that I have a bodacious(big)leak coming from near the oil filter on the drivers side. I first checked the top of the motor for valve cover leaks or Distributor O ring leak and it was dry. I than replaced the oil filter and put in a new oil pan gasket(not very easy with the motor in the truck) and it still leaks. After looking real close at the oil filter I wonder if there is an adapter that the oil pressure sending unit and oil filter fit on? If so that is probably the cause of my oil leak. Any ideas?
Thanks - Jerry

I have the same exact thing cept mine is an 87 and just fixed the same problem. Mine was a smaller leak but they can be gushers, on mine it was the oil preasure switch. Give that a look see, it's inexpensive and not all to hard a fix.

Does this truck have a oil cooler on it like most of them did? If so it`ll have a piece with 2 hoses that sandwich between the oil filter and the block.
After time the seal goes in the unit and it`s leak city. Firebird GTA`s and blazers, Jimmy`s, all came with a oil cooler especially on the 4WD units. Since they make it a tight fit and a PITA to fix it, I removed it and threw it away most of the time on friends vehicles and bolted up the standard oil filter mount. I would also add a 180 degree thermostat to help to compensate for the oil cooler no longer being used. As for the oil cooler, remove yours and inspect it closely it maybe just the seal you can fix easily, if not, up to you rather or not you get a new one. However I don`t think any of them needed it, the only point I can see in having one is if it`s locked in and going real slow speeds at high RPM for a extended period of time in rough terrian. Don`t quote me on it being the problem however.

S-10 2.8 oil leak

Solved my oil leak problem I took off the oil filter adapter and found that whoever fooled with it before didn't put a gasket on it when they put it together, I put on a gasket and now it is as dry as can be. I'm happy.
