Oil pan gasket and timing cover gasket, install?

I have 3 rubber gaskets for my OP and TC. There is one that has tabs on ea. End. Does that one go on the rear block? My motor is on the stand. Is the RTV, black hi temp o.k. To use in ea. Corner? Also the other 2 rubber gaskets one is a little shorter then the other, is the shortest of the 2 go on tc? Thanks

> Yes. The two tabs nest inside the rear main cap.

> Your gasket kit came with two different types of timing cover seals. Early versions of the small block used a thin timing cover gasket, later versions used a thicker gasket. The correct gasket will be determined by the OIL PAN, not the timing cover itself. Which one do you use? Check here: Oil Pan Gasket...thin or thick

Is the RTV, black hi temp o.k. To use in ea. Corner?
> You will need to use sealant on all mating surfaces and both sides of the gaskets, not just the corners, but the corners are the most important/leak prone. Do not use a lot of sealant either, you don't want globs everywhere.
For sealant read this thread: Best oil pan sealant?

Go to
Amazon.com Amazon.com
. Hover over the image of the book on the upper left of the page and enter "oil pan seal" in the drop down box. Beginning on page 108 are instructions on sealing up a 4-piece pan gasket/seal set.
