oil pressure

well i check the oil pressure on my 58 235 chevy and cold it was 40 psi and hot it about 5 psi so that might explain why the lifters are the way they are ,so i might not need lifters ,and that might explain the knock ??so i guess i need to change the oil pump first and see ,

low pressure

several things can cause low oil pressure, like worn bearings. If you go to the trouble of dropping the pan, consider popping a cap and checking the bearings for wear and discolouration. You can use 50w mineral oil. Also check your oil pressure with a different oil pressure guage if you can borrow one.
Are there any lifter noises at idle when the engine is hot? I assume you change oil regularly?let us all know how you make out, thanks.
