I would use the sending unit from the S10 ... so it would be calibrated correct to the gauge. You may need a spacer or a 45 degree angle fitting.

A 1/8" NPT (pipe thread) coupling and a nipple of an appropriate length will raise the sender enough to clear the intake. Try a local parts store or a plumbing supply store. Pep Boys had a pretty good selection of brass pipe fittings when they had a store here. If you want to put it at an angle instead of straight up, use an elbow, either 45* or 90*, instead of the coupling.
