oil pump pickup question on sbc 350

Hi guys I am getting ready to seal up my 350 sbc today and get it ready to put down into my s 10 this week but I am worried about one thing. I know you have to have 3/8 to no more then a 1/4 clearance between your oil pump pickup and the bottom of your pan. For my engine I got a milodon 5 quart oil pan and I got the recommended milodon oil pump pickup for it and its hooked up to a jegs street and strip hv oil pump. Well my dad checked the clearance and he had the pickup level at first with the pump but it was not far down enough so he had to angle it down some and I was wondering is it ok to do it that way with the oil pickup screen? Thanks guys hope someone will be able to help ease my worries or if I need to change something.
Eric

As far as I could tell he only had to angle it about a 1/4 inch or a little less but not much less then that. I always thought that they only worked good to be level but I hope it will be good.

It should be okay but The pickup tube should be located no less than 3/8 above the floor of the oil pan (to allow good intake flow) and no more than 1/2 above the floor so it doesnt run out of oil in a sharp curve. IMO it should sit level .
