I changed my '86 El Camino dash over to factory gauges. According to Chevy, the oil sending unit for gauges is mounted just above the oil filter in that plugged hole in the block. The Chevy schematic shows a "bushing" between the unit and the block. Of course, Chevy discontinued the bushing. I'm also concerned because eventually I'll go to headers and the sending unit is going to be sticking straight out and in the way. Has anyone gotten around this problem? My original plan was to plumb from the normal hole back by the distributor, but the unit won't fit under the distributor. Does anyone have the bushing? Help!
Hi Guy,
The thing I would do is take the sending unit to a parts store and plum out from under the Dist.with a brass nipple and bushing this should get you out from under the Dist.
Try Disc.Auto or Auto Zone they have a small fitting section.
Good Luck
Ron
Didn't some year models use the port at the filter for a low oil pressure shut down switch? I'm not sure when or if gm changed that.
