DUEL was directed by Spielberg; it was his first as a director. Incidentally the story is, I believe a Steven King story, that was published in PLAYBOY at the time. Also, its a Made for TV movie and I think the run-time is less than an hour and a half. While not a true car movie in a sense; the truck is as much of a villain as 'Christine' (King must really have a love of cars, between the 2 mentioned previously, there was 'From a Buick 8'; which is a riff on a song 'From a Buick 6', which is a musical tale of an HP Lovecraft story.

Im a bit of an S. King ( alias Richard Bachman) nerd (and his son who writes under the name Joe Hill).

Anyone ever notice that most of the bikes in 'The Wild one' with Marlon Brando are Triumphs (Brando's personal Thunderbird 6T was used in the movie)
As long as were still at it, don't forget his wife, the author Tabitha King.

Did you know that Lee Marvin almost quite over the Beany they made him wear?

I wouldn't consider Two Lane Blacktop a B movie, its a true classic.

A couple from the mid/late 70's -

Gumball Rally - (it's the original "Cannonball Run" type story, has a real deal actual AC Cobra and they drive it hard, along with a Ferrari driven by Raul Julia).

King of the Mountain - road racing on Mulholland Drive in California, Harry Hamlin(of TV's LA Law fame) drives a tricked out and flared fender cool Porsche 356 Speedster C, Dennis Hopper plays a psycho former racer trying to reclaim his glory in both a lowered '56 Ford truck and a battered and rough flared fender '66 Corvette. The end race between Hopper's Corvette and Hamlin's Porsche is pretty good. Also stars Dan Haggerty(TV's Grizzly Adams) and Deborah Van Valkenburg(TV's Too Close For Comfort), along with a '69 Mustang Sportsroof, a '70 Roadrunner, '79 Trans Am and some others.

I was going to mention this movie. Most people dont bring it up but it did have some cool cars and nice road racing. Something about cal's vet, love that car.

Last race.

Movie if you have the time.

My vote is 2 Lane w/Oats (him and the '55 made the movie IMO) and Thunder Road for the "B"s. Ain't a "B", Rush may be a classic some day.

Oh heck yeah the California kid is a classic. Too bad the sound track is SOOOOO bad with seventies crime drama back ground noise, yeow it's bad. But the movie, come on it was responsible for a LOT of cars and people joining in the fun in the seventies.

Anybody remember " The Big Wheel" with Mickey Rooney and Thomas Mitchell?
Made in 1949, it came up on the afternoon movies. Must have watched it a million times. Indy sprint cars, Midgets and I think possibly Track T's. Opening scene Mickeys driving manically, steering with a Brodie Knob!

Lots of fun to watch.
Here you go!

Waking up this thread....
Was just reading Jesters post in the Muscle Car thread, went to the page he linked and there was a car movies page also....Went though it and noticed one of the best drag racing movies (in my mind anyways) was not listed. Its called Fast Company, with William Smith, Claudia Jennings and John Saxon......Real good movie by David Cronenberg on his way up.....
