Old Bodyman

Greetings to all,
'
I am Karl Selander, 80 years old and still fired up with old cars and custom work.

Back in the 50's thru the 70's we were very active in autobody work. In our family we had several auto body guys. An uncle, Joe Lyons, worked in Hollywood and the L.A. area. I lost count of the hotrods he had but we do have some of the old photo's of his exploits. His son Stan Lyons has these and does not want them destributed but I'm sure I can describe some of it. In one he was photographed in a 34 Ford tudor upside down in mid air. No roll bars or helmuts and the races were jalopy derby madhouses.

For my time of involvement I did not race but the passion was there! We did do a lot of custom work off of my job at Reynolds Buick in Covina California and my garage at home was better equipped than the dealers shop. Frenching headlights, removing door handles, lowering rear ends and doing all of the popular trends of that day.

I got into the Air Tool business when the Inventor of the Viking Dual Sander/Filer worked with me in my body shop. Now I'm the only living Founder of ATCOA and fully basking in all of those memories. We sure started something, Otto and I are in this picture with his prototypes.

Everybody has copied our Viking Piston Sander and, even to day, some are still using our colors!

A great big Texas Howdy and Welcome aboard. I can sure use some help reminding all the younger guys about the good old days. There are a few of us senior citizens here, but think you will be the most senior of all and can sure refresh us on how long hot rodding has been going on!

Welcome aboard! I hope to be a cool old guy like you someday. Right now I'm 24, so I have a lot to learn, despite being self-taught on most things automotive.

If the text is kinda small, press the Ctrl button (under 'shift' on either side of keyboard) and the + (right next to backspace) button at the same time. Repeat to keep zooming in. To zoom out press the Ctrl and the - button (right next to the + button). Hope it helps.

Hi Karl, I am going to move this to the Lounge. I know I should put this in the intro, but you have a cool story and a super history to tell us about, more of the guys will read it there. The lounge is where we B.S. and talk about our hobby. A BIG welcome to the site from myself, I hope you stick around and share your experiences. Dan

good move. Lots of threads in the intro don't get a lot of discussion.

Karl- They still mention you on their site.
