Welcome. Sounds like a fun ride. Be sure to post engine questions in the engine forum. Much better chance of getting a good answer there.

Old... C'mon 44 isn't old. Camaros are cool cars, and 300HP shouldn't be to hard with a SBC.

old coputer geeks hot rod

hey thanks for the reply 44 is not that old , but trying to learn auto mechanics is harder than i thought it would be. when i started buying all these parts it looked easy enough.
new rings, higher lift cam, headers and intake + carb.
well it turns out i need valve springs to handle the higher lift ?
is this true or is this a slick sales pitch? oh and i have to change the ignition system. my dream hod rod is turning into a nightmare.

i have read all the books i could get on building a street rod.
i do not see why i cant just use an after market ignition system
like msd or malory put in an hei distributor and dump the old ecm.
the so called mechanics that live next door say its not that simple. why not?
any ideas?

thanks. al
