Old Fart needs to know

Ok guys, just getting back into the hobby after many,many years away from rodding. New technology has left me behind!!

While looking for the right project car I would like to improve on my "06 Dakota w/4.7 engine/automatic while keeping warranty issues in mind.

Any thoughts on throttle bodies,chipping it, exhaust system etc? Don't want to go overboard but at the same time enough to let some of these kids know that us old farts haven't forgotten how it's done

Any ideas appreciated....Jray

From what I understand, the heads are a limiting factor on those motors. I've heard (but I don't have any personal knowledge on them) that chips, intakes, exhaust, and other external bolt ons will only get you about 15-30 hp. If that's all you want, then go for it, but I would consider head work in addition to some of your other ideas.

Anyone with 4.7L-specific experience? Feel free to tell me I'm full of crap, but I just spilled everything I know about them

Doc here,

don't know about upgrades (I think the Factory offers a bunch..) BUT about Chipping it or changing the Exhaust..WILL void the warranty ..and 96 up modified exhaust (Cats) are not allowed .. factory Cats or type replacements only..

In your state, I haven't a clue as per smog regulations..but in California, on New vehicles, they give you a 5 year walk on smog inspections , before your first smog is due in lieu or tag re~issue..

If yours is similar and you don't really care about warranty , then now would be a good time to do it , boxing and saving all the factory stuff..with a list of what you did..so you can UNDO it 5 years later..when your first inspection is due..

Just about ANY performance upgrade you do is going to void the warranty (or parts of it..) so you want to keep that in mind..when you most need it..

I would reccomend looking into some of the Mopar performance magazines..

try this as well..http://www.mopar.com/m_perf_cat.jsp

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..

Thanks guys. I've searched the sites and seems like nearly everything available for the later Dakota 4.7 is just bling-bling stuff.
Since it would be major cash to get more than 25 or 30 horses more I will just leave it alone.....I know I can do quite a bit to my wifes '89 Crown Vic......especially when I know where there is a bored/stroked 460 I can lay hands on!!
