Old Pictures

I get some interesting rare old photos sent to me from time to time. Some that I have never seen before and that are really worth sharing.

Here is, (from L to R).

Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Warren G. Harding, and Harvey Firestone, 1921

Anyone else?

How old? These aren't ancient but the cars might interest some of you.

This one is over 30 years ago since the young gentleman in the picture is 35. That is my nephew, my sister and I. You don't see many of those big old cars like the Mercury and the Plymouth sitting in parking lots anymore.

This one is my brother and I looking at a 455 that we just yanked out of a Buick. It would have been about 26 or 27 years ago.

This one is my wife when she was pregnant with our 25 year old son. That is our 75 Chevy Impala Sport Coupe and our 77 Buick LeSabre.

This is my brother, two sisters and I in front of my brother's 72 Thunderbird. He commuted 50 miles one way to work every day back then, one day he borrowed my 73 Pinto wagon to drive to work and I didn't get it back for over six months, the Pinto was so much cheaper to drive even back then. I didn't mind though, I didn't have a 50 mile commute and the ladies liked the Thunderbird much better. I was in pretty good shape then, I'm the one in the red hat.

Southern Calif in the early days. Plank roads through the desert between Los Angeles and San Diego. Hard to maintain but worked on the sand. Board roads lasted about ten years before they started asphalting them.

A one way road with passing sidings! Maximum gross weight 8000 pounds - the flatbed in my avatar weighs 9000 empty. Truck speed 10 mph, must not have had much truck traffic.

Looks like this guy is saddled up and ready to ride.

They don't get much older than that. The 'American Pickers' boys would be creaming their jeans over those signs!

I sure would have loved to have been there! Can you imagine the feeling of wonderment those show goer's must have felt?
