Just like puppies, there is no such thing as a free motor. Get some decent heads if you are planning on revving it up. The 305 heads will work but run out of power around 5000 rpm.

It will also depend on which pistons you have, most 305's came with dished pistons so if you try to use flat tops or domes you could end up with clearance issues.

Please tell me your not seriously DE-stroking, why not, Stroke it.

Oh wait you prolly want an engine that will rev 7500 rpms all day long, well my friend, it's the valvetrain that gets you there not just decreasing the stroke.

If those heads you have are 416's they are prolly better than the ones on the engine already.

AMEN! there's plenty of 383's and 400's that spin to 7500 too. Sure they have all forged internals, but it really comes down to valvetrain being the reason most engines peak earlier.
