Old school semi

Saw a pretty cool old big rig today. I should have snapped a picture but i was in a hurry. But here's the model it was. Probably 60's dodge big horn. It had a creepy intimidating look to it too. It was dark green. And it had the smoothest sounding diesel i've ever heard. Just thought it was cool that there's still older trucks out there working and being used. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2365/...655fa20109.jpg

i just think it's wild how gm, ford AND chrysler all used to make heavy duty trucks.

What has happened with society?

dinger 10-03-2012 03:50 PM

Notice the size of the cab in proportion to the front end?

It won't be long (in Cal, anyway) where the laws will outlaw the old rigs. Since they opened the borders to mexico, it seems like one way to keep the old rigs they have down there from driving into Cal is to regulate them to where the can't come in. Of course, we don't need any additional smog, the air is filthy as is.

There is a couple of old Macks in my area, fully restored.

A guy on my Ontario forum transports his race car with this one...

Hold on there big fella  To some fathers "My Old Man" is a term of endearment. I know I called my Dad that specifically because he told me once he liked it.......

Back on topic...

I took this photo yesterday at work of a couple pressure vessels I designed shipping out for heat treating. The place I work has a couple of these long nose Pete's whick IMO are about as good looking a truck as any that have ever been built. As a youngster I thought I would be a truck driver.... ended up as an Engineer but never lost my love of the big rigs.

Nice! I love the looks of the older trucks, Macks always had a tough look to them.

My brother still Remembers factory fresh Brockways (hes 44). Sad when they left Cortland, NY. Last "Huskie" was built June 8, 1977 I believe. A lot were shipped to Iran back in the 70s.

i would say each and every new road tractor has very poor styling----aerodynamic benefits are dubious. (and what the heck happened to the paint jobs?)

What can we, as a society, do to save ourselves from ourselves?

against all odds 10-05-2012 01:26 PM

i would say kenworth probably had some of the best styling, but even they have lost it.

a) Gary Ridgeway painted some of them.
