Olds 307 intermittent problem.

Hey guys. I posted earlier regarding a high pitched squeeling around the carburetor on an 88 307 Oldsmobile in an 88 LeSabre wagon.

I could not find any vacuum "leaks" persay, other than a vacuum line coming from the passenger side around and behind the carb not hooked up to anything. I cant figure out where it goes, but it does draw vacuum. However, that is certanley not the cause of this weird noise.

If I put any sort of pressure on the throttle at all, the noise totally stops. I dont have to move it, just put some pressure on it. The sound is a very high pitched whine, reminds me of a chime you'd hear from some sort of malfunctioning electrical device.

Now, I have no idea if that problem is associated with my running issue. The motor runs great (other than it sounds terrible, I am praying for the best). However, upon initial start up heres what usually happens:

Start, it fires up, and runs fine. 10 seconds later it will stall. Re-fire and it runs great for 30 seconds and stalls again. Re-fire and it will run fine. Just every now and then, whether its idleing or driving down the road, you can feel an odd bog like the motor doesnt want to run, but doesn't stall.

Well, I hope that explains whats going down. All those lines and hoses for the emissions and ECM controls are scarring me a bit, so hopefully I can get somewhere with this.

sounds like a vacuum leak under tha carb. Try using a piece of fuel hose 2-3 feet long to listen for it. Put one end in your ear and the other for probing so you can litterally put an ear on it. Works good for exaust leak detection too.

The stalling on cold start sounds like a choke adjustment. The bimetallic spring in the choke coil can lose tension over time. If your carb has never been rebuilt, the choke coil will be riveted on. The rivets need to be drilled out and rebuild kits include new self tapping screws and retainer clips.
