Do a google and find Joe Mondello and/or Ken Belle. Both of them specialize in olds. You really want to address the oiling issue. I think they make some restricters to keep more oil on the bottom end. There are also some good head mods that help. Porting off the smog bump in the exhaust and welding in a divider on the center siamesed exhaust port. Or pop for a set of Edelbrock heads. I'm not sure on the casting #s anymore but the W-30 heads were best but probalby hard to find.
BTW, Larry FWIW the 455 makes a great replacement for the sbc. I knew a guy that was converting Chevy pickups back in the 70s-80s. Not only did the big Olds make gobs more torque. It was much smoother and generally got measurably better fuel milage. I even considered one but the crappy cab and weak front end on the Chevy pickups was always a deterrant.
