Are sure the cam timing is right?Does it respond when you first get on it?or stops pulling at a certain RPM? What is your total timing @3000 RPM i think you need about 32-38. And the valve adjustment. be sure you don't have to much spark timing.Don't let the bugs get to you!

Be sure you check your total timing. The big Olds usually doesn't like more than 32 to 34 degrees total.

CAM INSTALLED @ 1 DEG ADVANCE, ALLOWS FOR 1 DEGREE RETARD AS WEARS IN, GEAR DRIVE WILL ALLOW ONLY 2 DEGREE INCREMENTS, (STRAIGHT UP IS 3 DEGREES BTDC, IN @ 4 DEGREES BTDC.

HAVE TRIED IGN TIMING FROM 2d TO 16D STATIC, NOT MUCH CHANGE.

CRANKING COMPRESSION PRESSURE IS GOOD.

HAVE CHECKED AND RECHECKED THE LIFTERS, ADJUSTMENT IS 1/6 TURN PRELOAD. (0.006")

SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF REVERSION THOUGH. DON'T QUITE KNOW WHY.

NOT MUCH VACUUM, (AM @ 5000+ FT).

NOT MUCH ADJUSTMENT IN CARB.

STILL FRUSTRATED AND CONFUSED !!! <img src="graemlins/drunk.gif" border="0" alt="[drunk]" />

Is there any possibilty that your exhaust is plugged up? I had a problem with a baffle in a muffler breaking loose and it plugged the muffler.
Caused a lot of reversion, and no power. Wouldn't rev.

You had me scratching my head until I read that you are at 5000 feet. Thats up there. You said your compression is good...how good? You also said that the motor ran better stock. Well that stock cam has less overlap than your present cam. What were your stock compression figures? Unless you run very high rpm, you just might have to go with a lesser cam because of your altitude.

you said that you had headers previously,i hope that you are still using them. i've had motors that took me more than a month to get to run the way i wanted them to. it's probably something little, just keep working on it you'll figure it out
