olds engine ID

hi everyone...
I need to find out this engine specs that I just got. These are my casting numbers: 34R178608. The guy that I got it from said that its an Olds 350 from early 1970's. I was searching on previous postings and followed some recommendations of different places with information to come up with the specs, but with no luck. thank you

I get nothing on anything in the entire GM line with those numbers. That looks more like a VIN number stamped on a block than a casting number. Do a search on the web for Oldsmobile casting number locations.

Casting number 395558 is a 1968-'76 Olds 350 block, according to the info I have.

Good luck.

By the first numbers you posted (34R...), it is a 1974. 3 = Olds; 4 = '74; R = assembly plant code, Arlington, TX.

The next six numbers are a partial VIN.

Good luck.
