454 chevy horsepower quest

first of all i would like to thank everyone that provided me with solid information about my olds #5 head question, i won the heads but the sad part about it is that the olds engine was too far gone. it sat just long enough for me to have to get extensive machine shop work done to it, bore, new rods, pistons, crank, etc. that it could no longer be done on a budget.

after adding up the cost of labor, and parts, the cost would be around $4,000.00 or so, well over my budget and with no where to grow.

so after careful evaulation of the circumstances and cost i with a touch of sadness made the long drive to summit on the day that my olds died.

i was pressured by the guys at the shop, now that i think about it i might know who killed my precious small block, when i got to the shop they had everything all planned out, what engine to get, what fan, bracket, motor mount, trans mount, this, that, and the other thing right....

so do you really believe in coincidence???? well any ways i get to summit i purchased the 454 H.0. crate engine 425 hp. and 500 ft. lbs. of torque at 3250 rpms. the cam is 211 230 @.050, the heads are cast iron rectangular port with 118cc combustion chambers, 2.19" intake/1.88" exhaust valves, valve springs, and 1.7:1 rocker arms. the compression is 8:75:1. a holly street avenger carb 770 cfm replaced the eddelbrock, and the summit hei distributor replaced the mallory i bought at super shops years ago.

i replaced the provided standard intake with a weiand intake. the guys screamed when i told them i wanted to bump the compression up a few numbers, you can put a blower, turbo, super charger, yada, yada, etc. on it and get great numbers, yea for about $3,000.00 that i dont have any time soon.

well the question of the day is this, how can i get big numbers out of this 425 hp. block without investing too much cash, the block and stuff set me back way too much, but i just dont feel right with only 425hp for the money i spent.

thanks again for all the help and any information provided.
