one more newby to add to the list...

Hi everyone...

Me...
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
have been a car nut since I was a kid.
Born and bread Chevy guy (but I have owned a mustang, and a couple of Toyota's)

The Car....
67 Camaro, 396 (well 408, been bored 60 over), just about everything that can be done to a naturally aspirated motor has been done, and I'm pushing just under 730 HP at the fly wheel (no chassis dyno as of yet). Complete custom suspension, front and rear. 4 wheel 4 piston disks. ect. ect.
THE BEST PART, almost all original body, and NO BONDO!!
Needs paint, and a bit of work on the interior, but other than that she's a beaut.

Thats the important stuff I think.....

James

Hey James. I used to have a 67 camaro but it was no where near 730hp!
I have always wondered how you guys do it way up there in Candida.

There is lots of oil money up here right now (although thats not the field I work in), in fact Alberta has the hottest economy in North America right now. We haven't seen much of the recession that most of the rest of the country (and the US obviously) has seen. So with lots of young guys making big bucks (I know more than one 25 yr old pulling in over 150k a year) there comes lots of big dollar, high HP machines.

At the last "street legal" drags at the local 1/4 mile track there must have been 120 to 150 cars, and at least 50 were under 12.5.

And thats a very small selection, as there are street legals every Friday.

I have seen everything from SRT10 trucks with over 100k into them (above purchase price) to a 10 second dodge diesel, to blown Monty carlos, to crazy classic muscle. There is loads of really nice iron up here.

I was just very lucky to find this car. I bailed out a friend of my brothers who ran into financial trouble, and needed cash quick. Thus I didn't pay anywhere near what the car is really worth, and would never be able to afford one other wise (unfortunately I'm not in the 150k range, or anywhere near it for that matter!).

Anything to do with oil. Any trade will do well up here. Welders, electricians, pipe fitters, insulators, ect. ect. are all in high demand.

Have you herd of the Tar sands?? They are spending (quite literally) Billions up there.

Yeah I've heard of the tar sands....just been a few years, I'm thinking 8th grade geography. Wouldnt have to worry about getting too hot welding there lol. I bet the prices are high on everything upt there with all the money flowing around, are they?

Prices are high, but coming down fast. We all figured out that if you go to the states, claim it's a gift and have it direct shipped there is little tax and it's WAY cheaper.

It does get hot here.... sometimes. While -20 is normal in the winter, -40 does happen, likewise 70 is not uncommon in the summer and it has been known to hit 95 on occasion.... Gotta love Alberta, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes.
