ongoing saga of the '82 dodge

so not too long ago I posted a thread about dropping a 318 into my '82 slant six dodge 1/2 ton...I found a 318 that has an edelbrock performer carb on it...the guy is selling the carb for $50 and the engine's free, not necessarily too stocked on the carb, but the engine is pretty much too good of a deal to pass up...haven't picked it up yet, but it ran before the truck it's in was parked...anyway, the engine will need to be gone through at least a bit and needs some critical pieces replaced...so in the meantime I still need to drive the truck, so today I cut the cat. converter off...I'd suspected that the cat. was pretty clogged, but it turned out to be ridiculous, there was a pile of charcoal briquettes like you would use for a barbecue that fell out...truck runs amazingly better, it'll actually pull fourth and accelerate up hills now ...I bought the truck about a year ago and it had never known much for maintenance, and it got around acceptably well (barely)... anyway, just kinda felt like posting up this little story...

just make this not a pointless thread...does anyone know much about the edelbrock performer carb? I've heard nothing thats very flattering about them, it's coupled with a stock iron 4barrel manifold on the 318... also, as far as I know 318's are VERY tough engines,but they can have problems too, they just keep running despite them, what are some common problems I could expect from a cheap 318 that's been parked a while? thanks

Edelbrock carbs are excellent. Just like any carb they must be matched and tuned for their intended purpose.

Many people don't know how simple they are to adjust/ tune so they either work "right-out-of-the-box" or they call them "JUNK".

They are too simple....... the carbs...... and the people

Are you saying the 318 is still in a truck?...Better grab the whole thing....That way, you make sure that you have all the brackets, mounts etc that you will need when you do the swap.

As X says, Edelbrock is a good carb.

I've posted this Edelbrock Owner's Manual for carburetors on here several times, but here it is again for DR132....

Just follow the instructions and you can dial it in to a cat's whisker....

yeah poncho, 318 is still in a truck...truck is pretty much a lawn ornament, it had a manual tranny, but that has since been pulled out, truck was parked due to a shattered driveshaft and associated damage...I'm fairly certain that everything that will be needed for the swap is there...

I was just asking about the edelbrock carb because I have had no experience using them and hadn't heard much good about them around here...thanks for the manual techinspector
