I am researching whether or not an "Online Car Show" would be of interest to people. Individuals would submit pictures to the site, people could vote on their favorite, and then sponsorship prizes could be awarded. I am thinking that there would be NO entry fee, and voting would last for about 1 month.

I have seen similar online voting done with bikini contests, and was wondering why not with cars. Granted it isn't the same as being there, but then again not everyone can go to the bikini contest either. The car show will be hosted at project-quicksilver.com as a test bed, but other sites (like hotrodders.com) could do it to, since they have far more membership.

Let me know what you think. I hope to have something put together by the end of December to pitch the idea to potential sponsors.

No more shows of any kind...I've had my fill of the jerks with deep pockets and their attitudes. They Can't or won't build a car for themselves to drive but dump a load of cash in a trailer queen. Cry and B-itch about who should have won a prize and its usually them that cause trouble when the prizes are given out because their stuff didn't win. There should be a "Cry Baby" ribbon give out to them at the show's!!

A virtual car show would be neat, we had a 4th of July parade so why not HR.Com's Virtual 4th of July Parade

I hadn't given that much thought. I was just trying to get a feel for how many people may be interested in such a thing. Do you have any suggestions?

My idea was that this would be a "Hot Rodders" thing, not a trailer queen thing. So at least one pic of the car should most certainly be doing some kind of burnout.

As long as there's an "in the works or work in progress" class, I'm in. And, does the burnout have to be from the tires? My plow truck project smokes pretty bad from the leaking valve cover gaskets. It's smoke all the same, right?

LOL... That's good. You may not get any style votes, but I am sure you would get some real good sympathy votes for the effort.

As for "Work in Progress" category, if you look at my site, I am sure you will see that I would be heavily in favor of a category like that.

This bikini site, is it about a NOPI show? They have some really wild chicks at the NOPI shows....I have seen the pictures in the magazine's!!! What is the address to that site?? Come on..share!!!

Great idea but there must be some rules. The first would be like the one the FAA requires of the EAA, "it must be 51% built by the owner". Since these things don't fly I would say 80-90% would be a better number.

Just wondering how you could keep the spammers and plagerists from dragging up online photos of killer cars and entering them as thier own ride just for your online show. Another thing too.. Even at best, wouldn't the guy with the best photography skills and Photo Shop software have the edge here?
Maybe Jon and the moderators could have a little sideline gig of thier own here and go through all the members existing photo ablums and do some Hotrodder's Choice Awards. Maybe give the winners a Tshirt or something nice like that. By the way Jon, I wear an XXL
