oops, i traded....!

Just got home, guy mailed this morn bout my vette. Came and saw, and straight trade....called my buddy with a tow truck, and off we went. 1940 chev sedan delivery, tubbed, narowed 9", mild 350, all steel, tub job is beautiful, tires are new, nova front clip, power everything, even has heat! Nice 6 point cage, etc etc, needs minor elec stuff, tach and volt guage and signals not working. 010 block, not sure of heads yet, weiand intake, has lots of oil pressure and runs well, haven't driven it really yet so don't know how slow it is but I suspect plenty slow lol....will work on that over the winter, I'm thinking 456 gear, tunnel ram, big solid cam, and hopefully some decent used heads. Should be fun, for the less then 3500 I had in my lumpy vette I think I did OK....I do have to stiffen up the rear end, soooft springs......

nice truck, have fun with that one

I didn't hide anything with the vette, but honestly feeling more then a tad guilty....he was asking 18000, has an appraisal for 26, and on a good day my vette is a 4000$ car.....ah well....kids friggen love it, will have to relocate gas tank to install a small rear seat for them, .....and man does it run good, gonna be a shame to take the motor apart lol....

sunsetdart 12-03-2012 04:44 AM

Unless you are gonna do some serious racing, why tear the motor apart .If this motor runs as well as you say and all you have to do is minor stuff, then leave it alone and drive it. More HP means more gas, more heat ,so you may have to upgrade the radiator and finally more HP means more headaches.
I did the race car for the street thing. It is fun but its also a pain in the ***. Have fun with the car and just drive it.

I'd swap in a OD trans if it doesn't have one already. That's something you'll really appreciate on the street.

Depends on the gear, which honestly I have no idea right now, haven't driven it yet lol.

Bygddy, you made a GREAT trade! If your wife decides she doesn't like this ride, I'll be more than happy to make sure you get your investment back, with even a little profit! :mwink:

That's likely the plan, wanna get the elec sorted out, then pull the heads and see what I got, I picked up a set of very ported 882's with stainless valves, screw in studs and guide plates and comp springs for 100$, they were on a claimer 358 modified motor for one run, he won, the heads got claimed, then I bought em....they cc'd at 70, so depending on what pistons I find in this thing I may try and find a used blower somewhere and be happy with low comp lol.....throw my converter in it and some 411's or 456's and see how it works.......

Unless you're like me and a day trip with 100 miles of highway each way is a usual thing on the weekends...

In stop and go traffic its next to useless, so I guess it depends on where you drive.

Sell them back to the guy for $150. I can lay out a simple low cr stock short block supercharged 350 build plan for you that does not need big gears. Makes silly big power and cruises. No OD required.
Based on the Weiand 177 blower and hyd cam and Summit/Brodix heads. (3.36 to 3.73 gears are fine).
What converter do you have?
Start by bolting the 177cid blower on what you got, at low boost. Upgrade as it comes along.
It all fits under the hood on that car.

I have that b&m for the vette that I never put in, 3000 stall, well I will put a feeler out and see if i can flip these heads and find some decent ones used.....this thing is goofy and has remote oil filters, 2 of them mounted high up on the fire wall with braided line to an adapter, no idea why....31" tires is gonna want more gear then normal tho....I will start looking around for a weiand 177 used and if not start saving lol....

The Weiand 177 Supercharger Kit may seem like a big chunk purchase, but you get a huge gain in performance power and torque even bolting it onto the motor you got, without gears, etc etc etc. Out of the box big Bang for the buck that gets even better with upgrades.
The payoff is huge. You get a lot more of overall performance. The car will do a lot more, of what a performance car should do well,, better.

GLH and cruise.

When i was a kid, well, late teens I had a buddy with a 50 merc, identical to the movie car from cobra, just more chop, it had a stone stock junkyard 350 with a 471 on it, it flew, and took 2 full summers of hard core abuse before it got hurt...I will likely yank the motor and trans out of this over the winter and throw some cheap forged pistons in it....then save my pennies until I can pick up a small blower...

bygddy 12-03-2012 09:48 PM

Went on my maiden voyage tonight, stops and steers amazing which was a suprse, tranny feels soft, motor is actually half decent feeling, feels peppy, dfidnt push it tho, has fk all oil pressure, so maybe just a guage, maybe something to do with the 5 feet of braided line and multiple oil filters, or maybe its empty, didnt check, or hell maybe its junk, dfoesnt smoke or knock tho, rear springs are soft, easy to fix tho, one casualty, very rough road and lost pass side headlight bezel, which sucks....anyone got one kicking around? Lol......

bygddy 12-04-2012 06:10 PM

OK, so it has 920 heads on it now, and why the hell would it have this? Guage reads real real low on oil pressure, no noises or knocks, but like virtually zero at idle....would the remote cooler and filters affect this?

Supercharging is the way. Been running boost in my c10 since july, and not one problem. It starts fine when cold in the morning. Fine in traffic to work. Im running 9+ lbs of boost, and shifting at 5200. Have added over 10k miles since july. Mileage didnt change after stuffing. It is a 305, 906 heads, and performer cam. You would never believe it.

Much misinformation on blown engines. They want to scare you away, because it is too easy to make big power. Stock small blocks can easily handle 6psi.

I have a couple horror stories, but they were shifting at higher rpm. Not considering normal limits.
