Oops, i traded.

OK, some couple "technical" questions, longnsyory long.
Traded my S10, went to meet the guy last Saterday morn, he floated down his 89 Drop top Vette from about 4hrs away. Straight trade across the board, I had zero interest in the Vette, but its sellable, pretty car at least. Bought the truck for 3k, spent another 800$ on mufflers and Carb, traded for the Vette, had it for 5 days, sold it for $7500. So i did OK.
Now, found something oddball that most people will not like lol, 1970 Mercury Meteor coupe. 2 owners, 55000orig miles, paints very faded and likely not saveable, but 390FE, C6, and a 9". Its ugly but cool, at least to me.
Even cooler, its 500k away, hasn't been driven much, and I'm leaving at 2am tonight to road trip it home on a dealer plate. I should be there to meet the guy at 7ish am, I'm bringing some oil, a 5/8, a 9/16, and a selection ofmscrewdrivers. Guy says its "excellent" shape and he would drive it to Florida if he had to....but who knows lol. Paying 3k for it so the price is right. I'm thinking steel wheels with dog dishes, lowered a couple inches, flat black hood with the low cobrajet style scoop. The only non stock item is duel exhaust.
Any suggestions on stuff I should bring for an epic road trip?
Anything anyone can tell me about the FE series motors?
Thanks! Wish me luck.

Dave

sound like your on your way. keep trading up till you find the one you just can not let go. ok start with at least the basics hand tools . also has the oil been changed. if not i would at least find a place close to the guy and have it done before your trip home. also check all other fluids. make sure the brakes are good. take a wheel off and check front and back for yourself. do not take the sellers word on this. check the fuel filter. this trip is 500miles you post 500k = 500,000 miles. that would be one hell of a trip. good luck and let us know how you make out. and post some pics!

Its 500km lol, I'm a canuck.
OK, will change the oil, will have to likely risk the brakes, but I have driven some horrible braking cars....how bad can it be
Will have all fluids checked, and then roll and see what I have. No CAA, no towing, and the guy driving me down has to fly back in a rush so i will be solo most of the way. I am however bringing an assortment of 8tracks lol.

sounds like a plan. pop in an 8track and rock on! not the prettiest car, but it does look clean. and with some of your personal touches it will be a fine ride. again good luck with her.

We'll that's the thing, my Trans Am, the S10, the Vette, none really suited me, I'm 6"4 and go 320# on a good day, tattoos of Von Dutch eyeball, old school V8 symbol, old style roses up and down my arms....this newer stuff wasn't feeling right. I can't afford 50's stuff right now, and i like boats lol I had a 70 Pontiac that was all kids of cool and everyone loved and when I first bought it I was told it will never be "cool"....well everyone was wrong....looking forward to going that route again....that and i still have a brand new Turbo sitting on a shelf that would be neat in this tank.....
The Pontiac

1000km, 12hours, countless fox's, 5 deer, 2 porcupine's, and 1 moose, no fatalities, 6 extra large double doubles, 1 club sand, 3 beers (stopped at dads cottage) 150$ in fuel and zero car problems at all, in 40* weather no less.
Paint is all kinds of fkd, patina to say the least, but frame and floors look nicer then my wife's 09 charger. And it drives amazing. So any "muscle car look" plans have changed, to big, to rough to pull it off. Its gonna get a lowrideresq treatment instead, painted wheels, bullet center caps, white walls, real real low with a slight reverse rake, and piles of old school pin stripping.....so for anyone who actually gives a sht, thanks for chiming in, this car getting road trip was a bucket list thing for me so it was awesome. Must sleep now, its been about 40hrs and I'm wiped....thnks all
