Opinions/Experience with Mallory VIIs CD Ignition system

I've been having one heck of a time diagnosing and fixing a spark issue i've been having.

Brand new cap/rotor. It was so strange that I would test the coil and it would 'fail' so i replace it and the problem wouldnt be fixed. Figure its the module since the coil isn't firing so i replace it. I get a good spark after replacing it. Plug everything in and try to fire the engine. No good, doesnt work.

Only thing i could figure is that it would be the trigger or something else wrong with the VIIs CD ignition box. Sent it off to mallory.

Have any of you had this problem or any similar problem with the Mallory CD ignition systems?

FWIW, Mallory used to be the go name for high performance ignitions. As of late there a name that would be better off forgetting.

Just a suggestion: I'm sure you have been cranking away on your car to try and get it started. If you have, the spark plugs can become gas fouled and there is no way it will start. If you have not done so already pull the plugs and give them a good cleaning or replace them. Never assume that the plugs are good because they are relatively new.

Thanks ill be sure and look into that as well. I've already replaced the plugs when this first began to happen, and have cleaned them. I will clean them again while the box is off at the manufacturer getting checked out/repaired.

If I read this correctly this is a HEI distributor, and you are using the stock type internal module with the Mallory Hy-Fire CD box?? It is my understanding that when you use a CD box the box is the module and you remove the module that is in the distributor, all that remains in the distributor is the magnetic pick-up and the advance mechanisms, and the coil if you are using the in-cap coil.

If you were using the stock type module too it is wrong I think, at least the MSD, Crane, and Holley CD boxes are this way, the CD box has its own internal module system and won't trigger off the stock module.

Not familiar with Mallory as they lost me as a customer with their finicky Unilite stuff years ago, so if I'm wrong disregard this.
