I have had this idea for a long time so Saturday I picked up a couple early 80s Ford aluminum aircleaner lids. I cleaned this one up a little with some B-12 and fine steel wool. Then just laid the old spinner on for the pic. First problem is with a stock wheel the front hub hits and holds it out just a little. I had thought I could mount them with the hubcap mounting thingy for the center screw like my 88 Merc has but that thing holds the cover out almost 2 inches. Maybe cut out the center for some sort of cone, or take it out to the hubcap bumps and use a dogdish cap. Any ideas? comments?

Find a wheel with a little less backspacing and your clearance problems should be solved, Fab up a center mounted bracket for attachment similar to those found on the wirewheel covers of the eighties, you might also need 3 or 4 rim screws.

May not be the look you are wanting, but what about cutting the center, and fitting in a GM rally sombero, then putting the spinners on them?
