opinon on a splayed cap 400 sbc

It has been my understanding that there is less material in the webbing of a 4-bolt 400, so I'm thinkin' that no matter how many bolts you use or what angle they are, the webbing is gonna pull out of the case easier than it will with a 2-bolt block.

A good machine shop can fill the holes and install splayed caps. But depending on your power level, it may be less expensive to install 4 bolt steel caps.

If that's all you plan to do then the stock caps will be fine.

in any case I recomend having the block line honed, and I like the ide of using the steel caps, the factory caps, they could have lost thier clamping force due to one reason or the other, and the aftermarket caps and some machine work will insure everything is spinning true and keeping it where it belongs...
