opinon on a splayed cap 400 sbc
i have a 4-bolt main chevy 400 and i plan on running it on the strip if i put splayed caps on it would it be just as strong as a 2 bolt that has been splayed caped or still weaker than a 2-bolt.

It has been my understanding that there is less material in the webbing of a 4-bolt 400, so I'm thinkin' that no matter how many bolts you use or what angle they are, the webbing is gonna pull out of the case easier than it will with a 2-bolt block.

opinon on a splayed cap 400
i will probaly be stroking it to a 421 and be turning 6000 rpms making 550 hp but would a stock 4-bolt main hold up or should i fill the bolt holes and put splayed caps on it. thank for your replies!

in any case I recomend having the block line honed, and I like the ide of using the steel caps, the factory caps, they could have lost thier clamping force due to one reason or the other, and the aftermarket caps and some machine work will insure everything is spinning true and keeping it where it belongs...
