Red face Opps,I forgot,My bad. 351 w.

hello guys and gals,i have a 351 w,i pulled out my distribtor the other day to check for cracks and general inspection,well i forgot to mark it before pulling it out,yes i no better,can't remember how to line it back up?do i line up the rotor to something or what?please help,no *ss in her no more,she use jerk your head back,now she just laughs at me,idle's fine,just runs slow,thanks.

This should help you get it back in right. You will have to turn the motor over until you get it on TDC on #1 Cylinder on the compression stroke. Take out the spark plug put your finger over the hole and turn the motor over by hand until you feel pressure pushing against your finger; stop turning motor over when pressure stops. Then turn your rotor to where it lines up with #1 on the cap and install the distributor. If the oil pump rod is not lined up take a pair of long handled needle nose plyers and turn it a slight bit until the distributor will go in on #1 positon on the cap. If you are not quit certain you are on TDC, you can always take off the valve cover and see if both the intake and exhaust valve are closed.
