OT - Remote starter rant

I bought the wifey a remote starter for Christmas (yea, over a month ago) and I saved a few bucks by not having them install it. Well as I feared, I spent almost a whole day installing it. It's not that I don't know how to do wiring, it's just everything is universal nowadays to try to work with every car on the planet so it's difficult to figure out which scenario applies to your application. The directions tell you to hook it up one way and the wiring information they supplied for the Focus, doesn't match up. I still didn't get the remote locks to work. I got it to start and run fine, but I'll have to go back to the shop and get some info on the remote lock setup.

It's not a big deal, but I had to get the front springs and wheels on the mustang to roll it out in the snow so I had room in the garage and I pretty much lost another weekend of working on it.

There I feel better now.

The best birthday present I got was last year from my Wife and Son. A new cd/stereo for my pick-up and they had it installed . Man, that was nice. I bet now you wished you would have had it installed. I hate messing with the wiring, especially on those newer cars.

I installed one of those a couple of years ago on my jeep. It worked ok I guess, but the ignition on that car wasn't very complicated-

I have had remote starts in my last 4 cars. I love 'em. Back in 99 when I bought our Denali, I had a remote start installed by one of, if not the best, installers in town. It took them 4 days to do it! I wasn't about to mess with the new passkey 2 security system. It was money well spent. Man I miss that truck, but at 10 mpg, I'm glad it's gone.

I installed one one on my girls saturn while I waited last Dec. I drank coffee and smoked a cigerette. Twenty min later it was done. Cost me an extra $20.

I just put one in my wifes 97 astro van.You need relays for those locks.the unit just provides a ground for the relay it wont handle the power requirements for the door locks. Here are the diagrams that helped me do mine.I just used thoso tap ins that dont require you to cut the wire.I also used the plug in harness for the romote start so I didnt have to cut the Van harness for the anti grind circut.Good luck with your project
