OT weird wiring problem

94 Chevy pu. When cold (35dg or less) no start but headlights work. If I plug in the block heater for a couple hours, it will start but the headlights won't work for a half hour or so. No power to switch but continuity from power source.

No power to which switch? the ing. or the lights?
how does it do after you get it started and have to restart after short trips to the store and stuff?
When it gets that cold have you tried leaving the block heater pluged in overnight? I imagine it's been a lot colder that 35*f where you live! brrr...

If you mean no power FROM switch, the circuit breaker should be suspect.

If there's continuity but no power TO the switch, either a bad connection or relay would be my guess.

Doesn't seem to be a problem for the rest of the day once they start working. There is continuity between the power source and the light switch but no power for a while but that is only after the block heater has been plugged in. Makes no difference if it is plugged in just long enough to start or plugged in overnite. If the heater has not been plugged in, the headlights work immediately even though the engine won't start, ign switch on or off. My wiring diagram does not show any relays in the circuit. I would suspect the headlite switch circuit breaker if it had power to it. It has something to do with the factory block heater i think, just can't wrap my head around what it might be.

OT weird wiring problem

same thing happened to me last week , drove truck , next day no start , but lights worked .
i put charger on battery , started right up . battery freeze i thought . 5 minutes with trickle charger .not enough time to charge , but enough to warm the battery .

i also had a battery bust the hole top off in my suburban, thinking frozen to do that i guess .

so next time try charger , may work for you .
my truck been starting fine since that day for me .

Starts fine just needs to be warmed up first.
