the sub frame mounting area on these cars accept almost any engine from the GM line. you can just about fit any engine in, including big blocks, although you may run into clearance problems but that`s easy to get around. if the car has a chevy 305, a 350 or 400 is a drop in, since all small block chevy`s are identical in size, the only difference is bore and stroke. other lines such as buick and pontiac engines are like this also, except the pontiac 301, which also came in your car from the factory, which was a dead end off the pontiac family line, the 301 has a weak bottom end and terrible head ports, no aftermarket high performance parts are avalible for it since they figured it was a lost cause. if your car has a 305, it`s easy to tell it`s a chevy engine just by it`s appearance since there all identical. the catalyst on your car will say 5.0 liter for the 305, and 4.9 liter for the 301.
