Output shaft wobble

I've got a 2004R that I'm putting in a 1950 Jeepster project. Yesterday I measured the drive shaft. When I pulled the slip yoke from the transmission I noticed that the output shaft would move side to side about an eighth of an inch. Is this normal movement without the s/y in place? Thanks for any thoughts.

yes, the shaft movement is normal with no yoke installed

The yoke is the only support the shaft has. Remove the yoke and you remove the support.

He meant "slip yoke".
