Overdrive out in 04 F150

When I drive the truck and it shifts into OD the engine just revs high and the transmission doesnt engage. After awhile a prompt for transmission fault will appear in the mileage screen and it will shift into OD off. Needless to say I drive the truck with OD always off.

Checked the fluid and its doesnt appear or smell to be burnt and its at the correct level. Checked fuse related to the tranny per owners manual and none are blown. Ran a code reader and no codes came up.

sounds like the OD band is the problem...... Needs to be checked with a quality scanner and knowledge to determine if it is a solenoid or internal mechanical troubles.

When you say "Quality Scanner" you arent talking about those ones you buy at Advanced Auto Parts are you?

You mean something a transmission shop would have.

no, we call those cheap scanners garbage when trying to diagnose a problem

Quality $canner$ can put the electronic trannys through a series of tests and check ohm readings on the internal electrics / solenoids

It also requires someone to know how to use the quality scanner

OK, I'll take it to a tranny shop ASAP. My only concern is that If it is a simple repair that they wouldnt tell me and want to rebulid the whole tranny instead.

Thanks for your help.
