Build a 700R4... It's half the cost of the gear vendors unit alone and will be plenty strong...

Depending on the output of your BB the 700R4 can be built to handle quite a bit of torque and HP. Want to step up? The 4L80E has been modified to work and has the extra strength that the Higher output engines need. The weight is heavier than the 700R4 and the Th400. Check a search engine for mods and specs.

The 4L80E is a good trans I'll agree but, it needs a computer to work and a stand alone box (just the computer and harness) runs the same price as a good 700R4.
A friend of mine has been running a 700R4 behind a 600Horse BB in an Astro for about six years now with no problems... Just check out the "starting line" in the road at the end of my driveway... he doesn't baby it and hit's the 150 shot all the time...

Yea... you'd definately want to rebuild it with the Big Block in mind. Around here I can get a built 700R4 that will easily handle 500 lb-ft for about 700 bucks... prices are really coming down on these trannies so anybody interested in one shouldn't pass on it simply because you think it's to much...
