Paint Codes
Hey Guys,

Any ideas on how I can find the paint code for Millennium Yellow used on current Corvettes? That name does not show up on the computer at the local paint shop. The paint chips show a very similar color with a different name. Is it possible GM uses the same code with different names? The local Chevy dealer was no help [no surprise!]

Thanks for any help!

Matching any color should not be a big problem unless the mfgs. color is protected with patent law. I have found GM and Ford have secret formulas. Take the vehicle to a automotive paint supplier and have the surface scanned, or take the scanner to the vehicle. We match colors for touch-up all the time we can even match custom (home made) or faded paint. Some suppliers charge for this service now... Wonderful machine.

I guess I should clarify. I am not trying to touch up a car. I am trying to use the color on a 1941 Chevy Truck. How do most people "borrow" colors from late model cars?

Many times the name that the manufacturer of the car uses will differ from the name the paint company will use. You are probably looking at the same color at your supplier. If you can, get the paint code from the car. Get the WA number that is printed on the lower portion of the identification label of the Corvette. I think that tag is on the drivers side door on the new Corvette. I work at a Chev. Dealer shop so I will try to get the correct info for you on Monday if I get the chance.

I would not worry about the name that the manyfacturer uses. Just get the color code off of a car. The same color is often used for several cars with different names. The code and mixture is the same.

Different companies have different name for there colors. You could go to the auto parts store and look into there touch up paint book (hanging next to there paint) and check out the code numbers.

My 34 chevy is painted with dupont and the name of the paint is jade marine. but with PPG the color is called Turquoise. There the same color.

but the code you asking for is a code 79
