AMC's were painted with the same type of paint ( and color ) under the hood as the rest of the car and at the same time as the rest of the car was painted.. this would be for a concourse type restoration... so if you use a BC/CC.. use the same paint under the hood

Although I'm looking for the original shade of paint for the restoration, I'm not that interested in duplicating the errors/poor quality of the factory finish. What I would like to do is get the best quality finish for the engine compartment in terms of shine/durability and then be able to match it with the body color, although I will have the ability to sand/buff the body. If I use a single stage catalyzed urethane, should I use that on the body? If not, then can I get another type of paint to match the urethane in the engine compartment? Which brand is the best to use, and can I get someone to mix the same shade for me in two different paint types in order to get the best match?
Thanks again, Mike |
