Hey guys...i live in Buffalo NY...I just got my 66 mustang off ebay and I wanted to paint it a new color...I just got out of the military and Im kind of low on funds...Do you think there is anyway I can get a paint job for 1,000.oo or so--i see that maaco does it but I heard bad things about them. The body is in good condition w/only 1 spot (6")orange peel. I was also looking into the possibility of adding my 95 Jimmy w/82k miles 4x4, cd, remote start into the mix for a partial trade on paint if anyone is from the buffalo area...also the car is in St Louis now so if anyone from there can do a decent job at a good rate give me a holler-- What are my options...am i screwed until I get my feet on the ground--any help apreciated...my email is jraguz@adelphia.net if anyone wants to email a response

90% of a good paint job is the prep work. You can do that.
If you take most of the stuff off of the car yourself that won't be
painted, clean and sand the car well and prep it really good you stand
the best chance of getting a good job even with Maaco.
I've seen some cars from them that looked pretty good. But a lot
depends on who is actually doing it. Their quality varies a lot depending
on who is there working on it that day. One Maaco is not the same as
the other one accross town. Try and check out in advance what their
cars are looking like and who is doing them.
Try and get a urethane clear coat on your car, that way you have a
good chance of rubbing it out later if you need to. You can do that too!
Remember that the prep work and attention to detail is where it's at,
most anyone can spray, and for the ones that can't, buffing out the
clear coat can make up for a lot of sloppy spraying, not all, but a lot.
Like I said, I've seen some pretty nice paint jobs from these places for
less than what the paint cost me, not show car nice, but reasonable.
For most people this is a good alternative to the professional paint job.
