If the paint that you lifted was inside the door jam, you might try to do the brush touchup thing, depends on who you're doing it for. But if this is on the exterior of the car, forget it. You should feather it back until it stops peeling, prime it and paint it again. You may be able to break the spot on a body line or a peak by using the back masking technique. Also, stick your tape to your pants before you stick it to the car, it will help stop further peeling.
This used to just make me sick when it happened to a custom paint job, I know how you feel. Dave. |

Now you know if you leave tape on it seems to weld itself to the paint..

The 3 M Blue tape is great,BUT its NOT supposed to be left on for 5 months,1 or 2 weeks,OK,more time needed,REMOVE the tape.

With tape left on for 5 months, all bets are off. There is no way you can judge how the sealer works or anything if you are leaving tape on for 5 months. There is nothing that is going compare with that in the normal world.

Thanks guys.. Yeah I figured I should of had that tape off right away and retaped again. I figured it was garage kept all that time and the tape wasnt exposed to sun that it would stick as bad. Also was trying to cut some corners cause I got my wife on my back about finishing the car.. LOL but thats for another conversation.
Another question; Does the paint get harder over time? two days after I painted the car my buddy was helping me put on the hood, I dropped a 9/16 bolt on the corner of the fender and chipped the paint. The clear, base, and sealer, chipped off. also dropped the bolt from about 12 inches above. |

Ewww, that doesn't sound good. Yes it will get harder over a few days but coming off all the way with the sealer, that doesn't sound good. But listen, don't sweat over it, nothing is going to change it. If it chips easy, so be it. Next time do it differently. What if anything you did wrong I don't know. Don't sweat it, and drive with a smile on your face.
