paint prep

i want to use epoxy primer on my 70 challenger body that I am restoring. I have spreyed all of the metal with etch primer as I have stripped it over the past several months. I thought that I could spray the epoxy primer right over the etch? but i have recently been told that this is a bad idea? does anyone know? what is the disadvantadge of this?
Thanks for any help

I guess epoxy wouldn't stick to etch properly. It might be on there for a bit but could come off later on. Not sure, never done it.
