Paint prep advice

I will be repainting a 1988 GMC truck (along with some panel replacement and body work). My local paint supply shop said it would be a good choice to use Omni MP 170 epoxy primer over the EDP after scuffing and to prime the bare metal. He also said that MP170 could be used over the existing finish (black acrylic lacquer) if it is cured and in good condition. Is this true? The factory paint on the sides is in very good condition. I have worked with lacquer and enamels for many years but am new to the compatability issues of urethanes.

Yes it is true. A good epoxy primer will seal the surface of bare metal, seal the porosity of the bondo and provide a good base for finishing primers and color coats.
