Paint question

I have a 41 chevy that has a straight body. I want to paint the car myself, in my garage. I know not the best. But i can blow out the pilot light and put plastic on the walls and go to town I figure.

I have some basic questions.

Do i put a body etcher on the body? if so how much and does it get mixed with anything?

How much "High Build" primer should i use?

How much base coat do i purchase and do i add reducer and or hardner to it?
If so how much?

Clear coat, how much and what to mix with it and how much.

Can you rent High quality spray guns?

I really want to do the car justice, and i know i should take it to a pro. but i like to do things myself if i can and i have no money.

Thanks
folks

Brad

Brad, I do not mean to be rude, but the questions you have asked can fill volumes. The safety issues alone involved in painting a car in your garage can be an entire book. Modern paint systems are far easier to use than paint systems of the past, but are far more dangerous. I suggest you hang in this forum, use the search function and read all you can.

Some do, check the ones in your are. They may not advertise that they do. Give them a call and ask. FWIW modern clear coat contains isocyanate's which are particularly dangerous. They can enter your body from inhalation and also bare skin. Not to be dealt with lightly.
